May 24, 2017

The temporomandibular joint is formed between your skull and your jaw bone. Within the joint, there is a disc made of cartilage that keeps jaw movement smooth. Pain in this area is referred to as TMJ pain.

Causes of TMJ Pain?

1. Surrounding muscles are irritated

2. The joint is displaced

3. Arthritis

These problems can interrupt the smooth movement of the jaw, causing muscle tenderness, clicking or popping.

Things that Increase Your Risk

1. Stress

2. Grinding your teeth

3. Jaw Injury

Ways to Decrease TMJ Pain

1. Eat softer foods

2. Ice Packs
