Can a chiropractor help my headaches?

Recent studies estimate that nine out of ten Americans will suffer from headache pain at some point, putting pain medication sales through the roof. Headaches vary greatly from person to person. Some headaches are debilitating (ie: migraines), keeping the sufferer from work and leisure activities. Although painkillers are usually the first resort for those suffering from a headache, a chiropractor can help lessen the incidence and severity of headaches.

Tension Headaches

Most headaches are caused by tension in the muscles of the neck or misalignment (subluxation) of the neck. We, as Americans are involved in more sedentary activities than ever before, causing us to spend more time in one fixed position. This increases joint pain as well as muscle tension in the upper back, neck, scalp and surrounding regions ultimately resulting in headaches.

Headache Study

A study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics compared spinal manipulation to medication in the treatment of tension headaches. The study found spinal manipulation to be more effective and longer lasting.
